FC Halifax Town earned a 1-0 win away at Oldham Athletic, courtesy of Mani Dieseruvwe’s second half strike.
Halifax dominated early on but failed to convert any chances and it wasn’t until Jordan Keane won Town a penalty, that Dieseruvwe slotted home the rebound.
Town started the better of the two sides, winning a corner within the first two minutes. A short corner fell to Harvey Gilmour on the edge of the box, but his effort was well blocked and cleared.
Dieseruvwe had the best chance of the half within the first 15 minutes. A long ball from Keane found the striker inside the box, but his lobbed effort went narrowly wide of the far post.
The Shaymen finished the half strongly with a free kick in a dangerous area. Gilmour found Milli Alli on the right hand side, but his effot on goal was well saved by Magnus Norman as the referee blew for half time.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half and Mike Fondop received his marching orders. Jack Senior elbowed in the face and after a brief discussion with the fourth official, the referee produced a red card for the Oldham striker.
Town did eventually take the lead courtesy of Dieseruvwe. Keane’s shot from 35 yards was blocked inside the box by the hand of an Oldham defender and the referee didn’t hesitate in awarding Town a penalty. Dieseruvwe stepped up to take, Norman made a decent save but the keeper could do nothing to prevent Dieseruvwe’s follow up as he made it 1-0.
Fidel O’ Rourke very nearly killed off with his first involvement in a Town shirt. A great ball over the top from Gilmour put the striker one-on-one with the keeper, but the striker couldn’t keep his effort down as Oldham got a goal kick.
Despite late pressure from the hosts, Town held on to claim a vital three points. Up next for the Shaymen sees Barnet make the journey to the Shay as Town look to make it back to back wins.
