In the late kick-off in front of the BT Sport cameras FC Halifax Town won the Yorkshire / Lancashire derby 2-1 over Oldham Athletic
It was the first time the two sides had met competitively since January 1974 and it was a fiery derby between the Clubs who both find themselves at the wrong end of the Vanarama National League table with six men in the book and a couple of flashpoints during the game which saw home boss Chris Millington shown a red card and sent to the stands for the remainder of the game.
The first half was pretty even with neither side really testing the goalkeepers. A good ball into the box by Zaine Francis-Angol was narrowly missed by Mike Fondop.
Oldham debutant Timmy Abraham had an effort cleared off the line by Jesse Debrah after rounding Sam Johnson and that was the nearest either side came to opening the scoring in the first period.
Town had a penalty shout turned down by referee Andrew Miller. Jack Senior was fouled just inside the box but Andrew Miller awarded a freekick on the edge of the box but Town were unable to find a goal from the resulting freekick
Mani Dieseruvwe put the Shaymen ahead on the hour mark. A Luke Summerfield freekick was met by the head of Town’s top goalscorer who made it five games in a row finding the net.
A flurry of yellow cards was shown for fouls from both sides and Millington’s red card before Oldham equalised through Ben Tollitt, he capitalised on a backheel in the penalty area and fired past Sam Johnson to send the 2404 travelling fans crazy behind the goal.
Luke Summerfield found Golden and he pulled it back to substitute Rob Harker slammed home the winner with five minutes remaining with an effort which left goalkeeper Magnus Norman with absolutely no chance.
Johnson was forced into a big save from Tollitt and the home side were able to hold on for three points which sees them move above the Latics into 18th place.
