Despite the difficult conditions the game was given the green light after a pre match pitch inspection from referee Andrew Miller.

Both teams started the game lively with Halifax making one change from the last outing against Dagenham & Redbridge bringing in youngster Jay Benn for Tyrell Warren. Halifax were playing a 4-2-3-1 while Notts county started their afternoon with 4-3-3.

Notts County gave the home side early pressure as a Kelly Evans strike forces Sam Johnson into making an early save. Despite his efforts the ball kindly fell in the middle of the 18-yard box for Ruben Rodrigues who dispatched effortlessly at the 3rd minute of the game. Notts county had much of the ball in the first 10 minutes forcing the Shaymen to defend the early pressure.

As the game became even Halifax players grew in confidence pushing to get the equaliser. An unfortunate injury to Martin Woods at the 24th minute of the game. Number 17 Kian Spence off the bench early. Halifax begin to push on controlling the game which give Matty Warburton a glorious opportunity to put the Shaymen back in the tie following an error from the Notts county defence.

Halifax received their first corner on the 33rd minute which was defended well by the visiting team. Martins headed opportunity bounces of the defender falling in the path of the Slocombe allowing him to grasp comfortably. Halifax piled on the pressure as Kian Spence’s shot forced a save on the 36th minute. As the first half came to an ended Notts county had the opportunity to get a second but was well defended by an organised Shaymen defence.

The fourth official indicated 3 minutes added time. The first half ended with Notts county going into the break in the lead. Half time score 1-0.

The second half kicked off with Halifax pushing for an equaliser. The Shaymen got the opportunity on a counter forcing the Notts county players to recover swiftly. Aaron Martin booked in the 49th minute for a late challenge on Alex Lacey.

Notts County try to get a second with a shot on target in the 53rd minute forcing Johnson into making a save. The away sides began to put in some late challenges with Dion Kelly Evans getting booked on the 55th minute after he was late to get to the ball.

Halifax finally broke through the Notts county back line with a well worked move on the edge of the box. Billy Waters brilliant give and go in the middle of the 18-yard box with Matty Warburton brought Halifax level. That was Water’s 16th goal in all competitions as he sits top scorer in the team getting his 3rd goal in 2 games.

Halifax continued to lay down the pressure as Jamie Allen was played in courtesy of a Kian Spence ball over the top. Nothing came from it but the Shaymen grew in confidence as the game went on.

Ruben Rodrigues received a booking on the 65th minute as he put in a late challenge on a Halifax man. Notts county began making changes in the 66th minute with Callum Roberts coming on and winger Elisha Sam leaving the pitch. Halifax also followed by making changes as Matty Warburton was replaced by Jamie Thomas. As the game went on the game remained even with both sides trying to get the crucial goal. 69th minute right back Jay Benn was booked, and Halifax make another substitution as Gerry McDonagh replaced Martin Woods.

Notts oounty boss Ian Burchnall decided his team needed more energy and decided to do a double substitution bringing on number 26 Jayden Richardson on for 16 Kelly Dion Evens who was also on a booking and bringing on Aaron Nemane replacing their captain, Kyle Wootton. The county side were uplifted by the double substitutions with Callum Roberts going on a bursting run on which he was brought down by a Jack Senior tackle in the box which was immediately waved off by referee Andrew Miller. Notts presses hard as the Shaymen defended. Substitute Jayden Richardson went on a strong run playing the ball out wide to Callum Roberts who put a ball across the box and was met by Kairo Mitchell. The game was 2-1 going into its final few minutes. Halifax Town player Jay Benn received a second bookable offence which saw him sent off in injury time.

2-1 was the result as Notts County qualify for the next round of the Buildbase FA trophy.
