October was a month where Carlisle really showed what they are about. Big wins notched against teams around them bolstered by a five-star FA Cup rout of Boston. If October is anything to go by, they look the real deal.
Kevin Maher (Southend United)
P4, W4, D0, L0
They’re bouncing back well from Promotion Final heartbreak and October was perfect for the Shrimpers. Eight goals scored and none conceded in the league backed up by booking their FA Cup first round place.

They might have started October on the wrong end of the scoreline against Scunthorpe but York dusted themselves off to register big wins – including one against Rochdale in the FA Cup – and fight back for valuable draws.

After ending September in fine fettle Adam Lakeland continued the fine form for his side who started October seeing off rampant Rochdale and ended it holding York City. Progress to the FA Cup first round for the first time in three seasons also helped
The nominations for Player of the Month are:
Abdul Abdulmalik (Boreham Wood)
Luke Garrard has a list as long as his arm for players he can count on but Abdul Abdulmalik has probably pipped it in October. Winners at Yeovil Town and Eastleigh capped a fine month that saw him in the Team of the Week twice.
Josh Hmami (FC Halifax Town)
After making the move with manager Adam Lakeland in the summer Josh Hmami is more than coping with the step up to the National League. Two goals in a fine win at Rochdale were swiftly bolstered by the winner against former club Southport in the FA Cup.
Harry Boyes (Southend United)
We were spoilt for choice for nominations when it comes to the Roots Hall contingent through October, but Harry Boyes edged it. Immense in a month that saw the Shrimpers keep three clean sheets in three league games he also contributed three assists to the cause for good measure.
Callum Roberts (Scunthorpe United)
Scunthorpe fans have come to know over the years that they can always count on Callum Roberts when it matters. The winger contributed three league goals across the month and hit another in their FA Cup win against King’s Lynn Town.
