FC Halifax Town finished their away games in the Vanarama National League season with a 2-1 victory at York Road against Maidenhead United on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Jake Hyde and Jeff King helped the Shaymen to victory after Ryan Upwardโ€™s sending off in the first half ensured the Magpies finished the game with 10 men following two yellow cards from referee Tom Bishop.

Town boss Pete Wild told Shaymen TV, โ€œ”I thought it was an excellent away performance, I thought we went after them from the start, we wanted to go after them, and we took the game to them. I was really pleased; it was a professional performance. Yes, we had to do a bit of defending at the end, but I thought we were comfortable throughout.”

Going into the game, the Shaymen had lost their last two games with defeat against Boreham Wood and Dagenham & Redbridge, the Town boss was pleased with the reaction.

“We got together on Monday and talked about some of the things we needed to do better, and I thought we executed that well. We were more aggressive without the ball and we played some good stuff in the final third and could have won by more if we had taken our chances.

Town were up against one of the Leagueโ€™s top scorers today in Danilo Orsi but Wild was pleased with his defence.
“Apparently we’ve got a slow back four, I don’t think we have, I think we’ve got a very clever back four and we showed that today against Coley and Orsi, whose strength is pace,” Wild said.

Next week will see the Shaymen finish the season with a home game against fellow play-off chasers Chesterfield. Town can still reach the play-offs as it stands with victory against the Spireites and then results going right elsewhere. It will also be the first time that Town fans can watch the Shaymen this season.

Wild concluded, โ€œWe need you to be patient. It will be nervy; your positivity will be important. They will have spells in the game, stay on our side and drive us forward. Even when the chips may be down, you need to keep pushing the boys on. We need everyone behind us and let us finish the season on a high.โ€
