Vanarama National League

Monthly Awards: December 2020

Manager: Luke Garrard (Boreham Wood)

Player: Luke Summerfield (FC Halifax Town)

Volunteer: Steve Foster (Altrincham)

The final month of a challenging year was certainly one to remember for this Vanarama National League trio.

Weโ€™re delighted to present the divisionโ€™s Manager, Player and the Volunteer of the Month to you as the season began to really take shape.

Boreham Wood ended 2020 with intent โ€“ and their boss Luke Garrard says he wants this year to be a big one for the club as they look to take the next step.

They had a 100 per cent record in December, and the award just couldnโ€™t go to any other gaffer!

Wood took some real scalps, starting with a 1-0 victory at Hartlepool United.

Then came another impressive away display โ€“ they triumphed by the same scoreline at Notts County before beating Aldershot Town 3-2.

Garrard is the monthโ€™s top boss and he hopes itโ€™s not the last trophy he clutches this season.

December was the month when FC Halifax Town established themselves as real promotion contenders.

They started in style with ten goals in the first two games against Barnet and Weymouth.

Aldershot were next to fall before a small set-back at Solihull Moors. The Shaymen bounced back and beat Hartlepool in the FA Trophy and then Eastleigh in the National League.

Pools got their revenge but they ended 2020 in style by beating Altrincham in a thriller.

Luke Summerfield was their Mr Consistent in a great month and the experienced midfielder takes the award after numerous composed and competitive displays, most notably in a Man of the Match display at Weymouth on BT Sport.

We love the Volunteer of the Month Award as those who give up their time for the love of the game are rightly acknowledged.

Steve Foster is very much part of the team at Altrincham โ€“ but the clubโ€™s kitman doesnโ€™t even accept travel expenses.

Itโ€™s a family affair for the man they call Foz, the playersโ€™ go-to man just one of the Fosters involved at Alty.

His duties include looking after three different kits, the teamsโ€™ matchday needs and rushing out to buy the coffee, tea and Lucozade.

His house often resembles a laundry after every game and for that fact alone, he is a worthy winner.

Congratulations to our all December Award winners.
