Luke Summerfield joined the Shaymen in the Summer of 2020 and went on to make 121 appearances for Town, scoring 12 in all competitions across his four seasons with the club.
Quickly becoming a fan’s favourite, he opened the scoring on his debut with a penalty against Dagenham & Redbridge. Summerfield would end his first season with the club with six goals as Town finished 10th, missing out on the playoffs by just four points.
His second season would see Town record their highest finish since 2006 as they ended the season in fourth, losing out to Chesterfield in the playoffs. For Summerfield it was a season slightly more interrupted by injury as the midfielder netted twice in all competitions.
The 2022/23 season saw Summerfield pick up his only trophy with the Shaymen as he played an integral role in our FA Trophy success. The midfielder started in the games against Guiseley, Aldershot Town, and Altrincham, scoring from the spot in the penalty shoot-out, and was a second half substitute in the final against Gateshead as Town won their second FA Trophy.
This last season, Summerfield made 20 starts in all competitions, netting on four occasions as he once again helped the Shaymen to a playoff finish only to be defeated by Solihull Moors in the eliminator.
A conversation between the Gaffer and Luke led to them reluctantly deciding both parties would benefit more from a fresh start.
