Ahead of the U19’s National League Alliance League Cup Final at The Banks Stadium in Walsall next Wednesday night, FC Halifax Town U19’s Coach Mark Trueman was eager to discuss his views on the fixture.

“We’ve had a very good season.” stated Trueman.

“We’ve done well in the league and have been unfortunate not to win the league again this season. But, we’ve prioritised the National League Cup this season and we’ve performed well in big games under pressure, which has enabled us to reach the final.”

He was also quick to accredit his staff members and players alike who he believes have been key to his sides’ success: “Credit has to go to the players, staff and the youth team programme overall here at Halifax.”

“That’s one of the main reasons as to why we’ve had recent success like doing well in the FA Youth Cup, winning the league last year and obviously now getting to the National League final.”

The Shaymen secured their place in the cup final with a convincing 3-1 victory over Hastings United in April.

Trueman’s side have not played competitively for two weeks, however Trueman revealed how his side have combated this: “We had a friendly against Leeds United last week, which was a good test for us.”

“The lads have been training nearly every day. We’ve also watched videos of Chester. It’s about making sure we’ve planned and prepared properly for this. We want the lads to have as much information on Chester as possible.”

“Of course we’re still concentrating on ourselves and performing well.”

“It’d also be great to have some supporters attend the game!” enthused the coach.

“With the first teams’ season having ended, it would be fantastic to have some fans to come down and watch the game to see what talent we have in our youth side at the club.”

“I know Chester are planning on brining a few fans, so it would be great if we could do that too. We’ve got a great support for the first team and if we could get a small percentage of that coming, it would great for the lads to have them cheer us on.”

The game takes place on Wednesday night at the Banks Stadium in Walsall, 7pm kick-off.

Town are subsiding travel to this important fixture; the Supporters Coach will leave the MBi Shay Stadium at 3.30pm for just £7 per person.
