FC Halifax Town defeated Kings Lynn Town 4-2 in a 6-goal thriller at the Shay, after coming back from being 2-0 down.

The first real opportunity fell to Kings Lynn Town after 10 minutes, and should’ve seen them take the lead. Former Town man Cameron King played the ball to striker Simeon Jackson inside the area, who got a powerful right footed strike, but was denied by a brilliant save by Sam Johnson, keeping the scores level.

Kings Lynn opened the scoring in the 13th minute. The ball was picked up on the left by Tyler Denton, and was delivered into the box with pace, with number 9 Michael Gash making no mistake, firing home on the volley into the top right corner.

Despite The Shaymen having a few early chances and seeming to be in control of the game, Kings Lynn had their second in the 25th minute. Simeon Jackson’s initial shot from the edge of the box was blocked, but fell directly into the path of Sonny Carey, who fired home to double the visitors lead.

Although they had an early setback, Halifax continued to put the pressure on in a bid to get back into the game, and in the 42nd minute, they had their reward. A brilliant ball into the box by Neill Byrne was picked up by Billy Chadwick, who fired the ball into the net, giving The Shaymen a lifeline.

Just three minutes later, Halifax had their equaliser. A deep Luke Summerfield free kick was expertly delivered into the box in the air, picking out Jake Hyde, who controlled well before coolly firing the ball into the bottom corner, levelling the scores going into half-time.

Town continued their momentum at the beginning of the second half, creating chances right from the start. In the 48th minute, a Danny Williams ball was nearly turned home with a deft touch from Jake Hyde, before the Shaymen made it 3-2 in the 50th minute. Jake Hyde did brilliantly to hold the ball up, before laying the ball off to Summerfield just outside the box, who fired into the bottom corner with an outside of the boot shot.

After taking the lead for the first time in the match, Halifax continued to dominate proceedings, and had their fourth goal in the 57th minute. A miscued clearance from Ethan Coleman saw the ball fall right into the path of Jack Earing, who couldn’t miss an open net from close range to make it 4-2.

Chances continued to come for both sides as the second half wore on, in what was a very end-to-end game. Sonny Carey saw a close range effort go just wide in the 72nd minute, before Billy Chadwick went close minutes later.

Town could’ve made it 5 with a great counter-attacking move in the 82nd minute. Billy Chadwick received a well-timed through ball from Luke Summerfield, and controlled well before firing a shot towards goal, that was well kept out by goalkeeper Theo Richardson.

Jake Hyde and Billy Chadwick showed good link up play throughout the match, and it was on show again in the 88th minute. A Chadwick through ball was picked up by Jake Hyde and converted by the striker, but the offside flag was raised, and the goal chalked out.

That was to be the last of the action in the game, with it finishing FC Halifax Town 4-2 Kings Lynn Town. The result sees Halifax move back into the play off positions, moving to 6th.
