FC Halifax Town were defeated in their first game of their pre-season campaign as Aaron Cosgrave’s goal wasn’t enough to give Town the win.

Town’s pre-season campaign got underway this evening as The Shaymen took on Hyde United at the Project Solar Stadium.

The Shaymen had their first chance of the game inside the first five minutes, as Cosgrave had his shot blocked and taken out of play.

It was the right wing trialist for Town that got the shot off for Town. Youngster Frankie Sinfield laid the ball off for the trialist but his shot was wide of the target.

15 minutes in, Connor Heath hit the post for Hyde. A ball over the top of the Town defence was latched onto by Heath, as Town’s Will Smith was appealing for offside, he got his shot away and hit the post as the flag stayed down.

Just after the half hour mark, it was Town’s trialist left back who went for goal from distance. His effort was on target, but an easy save for the ‘keeper in the end.

Almost instantly, Hyde United took the lead through Jack Redshaw who tapped the ball home from close range.

Town went into the break a goal behind.

Early into the second half, it was a triple change for Hyde as the goal scorer was one of the players to make way.

The Town side grew in confidence throughout the second half, but weren’t able to test the ‘keeper.

In the 80th minute, academy graduate Ted Lavelle skipped past the Hyde defence to flash the ball across the box but nobody could get on the end of it.

Just a minute later, Tom Pugh won the ball back and gave the ball to Cosgrave who fired Town level.

It was ever present Sam Johnson that made way for Town, allowing the trialist goalkeeper to try and make his mark on the game.

With just three minutes of normal time left, Hyde rattled the crossbar, and it was one of their trialists that was able to restore the lead for the home side.

Town are next in action on Saturday against Mossley, with a kick off time of 2pm before it’s back to The Shay for the Summer Sizzler.
