FC Halifax Town face Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday. The Shaymen come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win whilst Havant fell to a 6-2 defeat away to Fylde. Here we look at a player the Shaymen need to watch.

Striker Alfie Rutherford is currently the Hawks’ top scorer with 11 goals for the season. Rutherford got Havant’s second consolation goal in the 6-2 defeat. The game was already lost but Rutherford will be happy with another goal.

Rutherford began his career at Moneyfields FC, playing in the Wessex League. Rutherford later moved onto Bognor Regis where he really cemented his place as a favourite. Rutherford scored 22 goals in 32 appearances.

He signed for Havant in the May of 2016 under manager Lee Bradbury who was looking to sign local youngsters. Initially, he struggled to get game time and after a short loan spell at Eastbourne Borough earlier this season, Rutherford has been one of the first names on the team sheet in recent weeks.

Rutherford has played an important part in Havant’s survival challenge as they sit top of the relegation zone. Rutherford netted what turned out to be the winner in the encounter earlier this season which saw Havant come out 2-1 winners over the Shaymen.

He’ll be hoping to continue his good form that has seen him net two goals in his last two games.

The game is 3pm kick off at the MBi Shay Stadium. If you are unable to attend, follow the Shaymen on the various social media platforms and the live commentary from 2:45.
