FC Halifax Town return to the Shay on New Year’s Day for the return fixture of the Vanarama National League Yorkshire derby against Harrogate Town.
After picking up four points from a possible six during the festive period so far thanks to a late winner from Dayle Southwell on Boxing Day at Harrogate, and Jordan Preston scoring 18 seconds in up at Gateshead. Now the Shaymen go into the derby in high confidence of winning the three points.
The Shaymen come into the Yorkshire derby having only lost one game out of five in the league putting them in 16th position on 31 points. A win for Town in the Yorkshire derby could potentially lift the side to 13th should results fall in our favour.
Simon Weaver’s Harrogate side travel down from North Yorkshire struggling for form having only won one in seven in the league and come to the Shay on the back of three straight losses against AFC Fylde (1-2) FC Halifax Town (1-2) and Eastleigh (2-1).
This dip in form for Harrogate has seen them drop to sixth and anything other than a win could potentially see them fall out the play-off positions, which would be the first time they have been outside the top seven since the 11th August.
The Shaymen will be looking to carry on where they left off last time the two sides met on Boxing Day at Wetherby Road. A dominant second half performance from Town saw Nathan Clarke pull the sides level with his header 10 minutes into the second half. And two minutes from time Southwell gave the Shaymen all three points as his powerful shot from a tight angle separated the two sides.
The Yorkshire derby will kick off down at the Shay at 3pm on New Year’s Day. Should you not be able to make it to the match you can listen to live commentary from the ground on Shaymen audio from 2:50pm.
