Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 win over Grimsby Town, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“I’m dead pleased,” Wild said. “The lads have put in an excellent, professional performance tonight. We learnt a lot of lessons from the last Grimsby game so a lot of credit has to go to my staff. We’ve spent hours and hours looking at bits of information as to how we could be better after that Grimsby game. I thought we implemented those things tonight. We played higher up the pitch, defended higher up, and limited their chances. There weren’t too many chances for either side but it’s those fine margins. I’m really pleased to get the win with those fine margins tonight.”

Matty Warburton netted the only goal of the game with Town’s second penalty of the season. Max Crocombe was left with no chance as Warburton fired the shot hard to the bottom left corner.

“Those are the footholds you need,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “You keep knocking the door down, you hope they make a mistake and they did. It was a really well taken penalty as well. After the penalty we wanted to keep being on the front foot. We wanted to be the team that kept pushing and not invite pressure onto ourselves. We’ve certainly shown that in the last two games.”

Town made one change before the game as Jamie Allen came in to start in place of Matty Stenson.

“We just felt that a four-day turnaround was too much,” Wild said. “After such a long time out, we thought we’d throw caution to the wind and make sure he stays fit. We’ve got Matty back now and we don’t want to lose him again. It gave the chance for Jamie to play through the middle and we were hoping to utilise his pace down the sides as well at times.”

The Shaymen travel to Alfreton Town in our next fixture for the fourth round of the FA Trophy, a competition Wild is hoping to do well in.

“We’re really looking forward to it,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “I want to do well in the Trophy. It’s another ground I’ve never been to so it provides a different test. We’ll start looking at Alfreton tomorrow and put a plan together to make sure we come out on the right side of Saturday’s result.”
