1)ย ย ย ย Name Change

They were formed in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham, but eventually changed their name to Grimsby Town.

2)ย ย ย ย Kings of Lincolnshire

Despite the clubโ€™s recent struggles, they are the most successful club in Lincolnshire. They are the only club in the region to have played top-flight football. They also have the best record in the FA Cup.

3)ย ย ย ย FA Cup Runs

The club has reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup twice in their history. They lost the first 5-0 against Wolves at Old Trafford, following an early injury to their goalkeeper and rules forbidding substitutes.

4)ย ย ย ย Bill Shankly

Successful Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, who won three League titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup in Merseyside, managed at Grimsby Town early on in his managerial career.

5)ย ย ย ย Wembley Stadium Double

During the 1997/98 season, Grimsby Town played at Wembley twice, winning both the Football League Trophy and the Football League Second Division Play-Off Final.

6)ย ย ย ย Up and Down

When they were relegated from the Football League in 2010, they became just the fourth club to compete in all of the top five divisions of English football. Carlisle United, Oxford United and Luton Town were the first three.

7)ย ย ย ย Biggest Wins

Their biggest league win was an 8-0 win at home over Tranmere Rovers in the 1925/26 season. They also beat Darlington by the same score line in 1885.

8)ย ย ย ย Heaviest Defeats

The clubโ€™s heaviest defeat was a 9-1 thrashing away at Arsenal in 1931. They also lost 9-1 to Phoenix Bessemer in 1882.

9)ย ย ย ย Top Scorer

Pat Glover is both the clubโ€™s all-time top scorer and holds the record for the most goals in a season, with 180 and 42 goals, respectively.

10)ย Highest Appearances

John McDermott played 647 times for the club, making him the clubโ€™s record appearance holder.
