FC Halifax Town’s first pre-season outing ended in a goalless draw away at Glossop North End.

The best chance of the game fell to Glossop North End from the penalty spot, however Town goalkeeper Sam Johnson guessed right to deny the hosts. Halifax made two changes at half time with a further nine coming in the 60th minute as Chris Millington looked to get minutes for every player.

After a fairly quiet opening first 15 minutes, Town won their first corner of the game after Angelo Cappello saw his cross blocked. Trialist took the corner and found the head of Tom Clarke at the back post but his header bounced harmlessly wide.

It took just over 20 minutes for the Shaymen to register their first shirt on target. Ryan Galvin’s low ball into the box found the feet of Rob Harker who went down after trying to turn his man inside the box but the ref saw nothing wrong. The ball fell to Jack Hunter but his effort was straight into the hands of the Glossop goalkeeper.

Town’s best chance of the half came just past the half hour mark. Andrew Oluwabori turned his man on the edge of the box and his low shot was tipped narrowly wide by the keeper. From the corner, the ball again came to Oluwabori who’s effort was blocked for a second corner which came to nothing.

With Glossop’s first real entry into the box, Sam Johnson made a rare mistake and was caught in possession. As he tried to reclaim the ball, Town’s keeper took out the Glossop striker and the ref wasted no time in pointing to the spot. Johnson guessed right, diving low to his right and made the save to keep the scores level.

Town made two changes in the second half, as Tom Scott came on to replace Sam Johnson and Tom Clarke was replaced by a trialist.

The Shaymen made a much faster start to the second half with a good chance inside the first five minutes. Galvin with a nice ball down the line to find Cappello, but Harker couldn’t quite reach the cross as it went behind for a goal kick.

Just five minutes later and Town really should have taken the lead. Cappello with a great through ball for Harker to latch onto but the Glossop keeper made a great save at his near post to keep the scores level.

The remaining nine changes for the Shaymen were made on the 60th minute with Jordan Keane, Luke Summerfield, Jamie Cooke, Millenic Alli, Ted Lavelle, Aaron Cosgrave, and three trialists coming on.

Some really nice play from Summerfield saw the midfielder get deep into the Glossop half before laying it off to Alli. The Town attacker was brought down right on the edge of the box after some nice individual skill. Summerfield went for goal from the free kick but his effort came back off the cross bar and bounced out for a throw in.

Cooke this time brought down right on the edge of the box with just over 10 minutes left on the clock. Alli took it this time but couldn’t beat the wall. The ball came back out to the Town forward but he was rapidly closed down as Glossop got it clear.

Up next for the Shaymen sees Town make the short journey to Farsley Celtic for our second pre-season friendly on Saturday.
