Club captain Lee Gregory said that he had made “The best start to the year” by bagging two goals in Town’s 3-3 draw with Gateshead at The Shay today. He said “I’m playing alright, and hopefully I can keep going, keep on scoring.”

The in-form striker scored twice in the opening 13 minutes, but after hanging on through the last 20 minutes, Gregory still sees it as two points dropped.

“We’re not happy with the result, we should have had the three points, it’s as simple as that” he said. He also admitted that he was slightly fortunate to score his second, “I think the keeper fumbled it” he said.

He’s now scored three in his two appearances since returning from injury, but he said he was feeling unfit, “I feel tired today but I think in a couple of games I should be alright” he said.

He also could have had a hat-trick, only denied by the Linesman’s flag, and it was a dubious call. He said “I don’t think it was (offside), people have told me it wasn’t, but I’ll have to look at it again.”

Gregory and his teammates now turn their attention to Saturday’s game away at Tamworth, and he made his objective clear, “We need to win, we need to guarantee three points to stay up in the play-offs.”
