FC Halifax Town recorded a 2-0 victory away at Gateshead in the Vanarama National League thanks to goals from Kane Thompson-Sommers and Millenic Alli.

Town boss Chris Millington made one change from the midweek FA Trophy tie with Kane Thompson-Sommers in for midfielder Luke Summerfield.

The home side had most possession in the early stages, but it took until the 11th minute for the first opportunity. Stephen Wearne found ReganBooty in the box, but his effort was deflected wide for the first corner of the game.

Town responded Ryan Galvin and Millenic Alli combined, the cross looked for Max Wright in the box but an outstretched leg from a Gateshead defender prevented the Shaymen having an opportunity to score from close range.

A cross from the right-hand side, Aaron Cosgrave went down in the box, but referee Garreth Rhodes waved away his appeal for a penalty.

On 29 minutes, Gateshead got the ball down the right for Kyran Lofthouse, and he pulled back to former Town loanee striker Billy Chadwick, but his effort was straight at Town goalkeeper Sam Johnson.

The opening goal of the game came in the 35th minute came from Thompson-Sommers, he picked the ball up on the right hand side. He went past Regan Booty and curled his effort past Archie Mair for his first goal for the Club.

The home side had a great opportunity to equalise, Lofthouse down the right pulled it back for Booty but his effort was blocked by Adam Senior for a corner. Then Wearne got in behind the Town defence, but his effort was deflected over the bar by Keane.

Two minutes into injury time, Wearne had time and space, but his effort was wide of the target and not troubling Sam Johnson.

At the start of the second half, Town worked the ball down the left with Thompson-Sommers, the cross into the box was cleared to Tylor Golden but his first-time shot was well wide of the target.

The home side wanted a penalty in the 48th minute, Lofthouse went down under a challenge from Ryan Galvin who had hold of his shirt, but nothing was given by Rhodes.

Wearne down the left, he cut the ball back to Chadwick, his shot was deflected onto the head of Dinanga, but he could only direct his header straight at Johnson.

Chris Millington made the first substitution of the game on the hour mark with Rob Harker on for Aaron Cosgrave

Alli chased a ball into the box and went down under a challenge from Mair, nothing was given again from the referee.

Town made it 2-0 on 70 minutes with Millenic Alli picking the ball up in his own half, he got into the box and made himself some space and fired past Mair for his 6th of the season followed by his trade mark somersaults.

Ten minutes later, Alli had time and space on the right-hand side, he looked for his second of the afternoon, but his effort was always rising over the bar.

Adam Senior drove forwards, he found Galvin and back to Senior, but his effort wasn’t troubling Mair and out for a goal kick.

The home side nearly pulled one back with three minutes remaining, Luke Hannant’s effort hit the bar and bounced clear.

The victory was the fifth of the campaign away from the Shay following wins at Oldham, Rochdale, Woking and Ebbsfleet and was the 9th clean sheet of the season.

Town will entertain Rochdale at the Shay Stadium next Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
