FC Halifax Town U19s were beaten 1-0 by Farsley Celtic in the FA Youth Cup 3rd Qualifying Round

The match started relatively calm until Farsley’s Tom Standing flew into a reckless challenge in the midfield and earnt a yellow card for his efforts

Standing kept his foot on the gas as he created the first chance of the game which forced a well time block by The Town’s captain Harvey Coates. The approach finally paid off for the Farsley 10 in the 29th minute as Sanga Koubally delivered an inviting ball into the box, which Standing coolly headed in.

Halifax would not go long without fighting back, as in the 35th minute Favour Gold set up Luke Brooks on the counter which Brooks fired inches over the bar. Farsley came close to doubling their lead when Ebenezer Ahmed closed down Halifax’s keeper Ben Noble, however he failed to capitalise on the open net.

Halifax came out for the second half eager to chase the lead, this resulted in Luke Brooks finding himself in the book after a feisty challenge, reminiscent of Standing’s tackle in the first half.

Farsley Celtic were not content with their one goal lead as they pushed for a second and almost got it when Sanga Koubally’s glanced header flew just wide of the right post, this momentum continued as Standing’s effort was tipped over the bar by Noble.

Halifax replied following a Farsley corner as The Town broke yet again with Favour Gold, he was taken down by Fabian McClaren who saw yellow much to the dismay of the home support, who thought red would have been more suitable. The red would come, however it was a Halifax player who was shown the card, as in the 82nd minute Luke Barlow seemed to strike a Farsley defender and was given his marching orders by referee Lewis Atkinson.

With Halifax pushing for a goal the final minutes saw chances for both teams including a valiant free kick effort from Luke Brooks, but clever game management from Farsley closed out the game to book their place in the next round.
