FC Halifax Town were comfortable winners with a 4-0 victory over Farsley Celtic at the Citadel in our second pre-season game.

Goals from Trialist (no 4), two from Aaron Cosgrave and one from Jamie Cooke on a very wet afternoon helped the Shaymen to victory.

The first goal came within the first five minutes, a freekick into the box found Adam Senior who hooked the ball into the air and the ball found it’s way back to the trialist who curled his shot past Farsley Celtic goalkeeper Harry Allen

Town looked for a second goal, Cooke’s cross was too high, found its way to Ryan Galvin on the left-hand side, his cross met by Cosgrave, but he couldn’t get a decent touch at the near post and Farsley survived, then Tylor Golden cross found Adam Senior, but his header was wide of the target.

Farsley had a couple of efforts of their own with Connor Branson shooting narrowly wide and Jordan Carroll had a volley land on top of the net, but it was as close as the home side would come all afternoon.

However, it was Town that found the second goal on 26 minutes, Golden’s cross was met perfectly by Cosgrave to fire past the keeper for his first goal for the club

It didn’t take long for the third goal, Galvin’s cross from the left-hand side met by Cooke 10 yards from goal and he headed past the keeper for his first of pre-season.

Town weren’t finished with the goals in the first half, Cosgrave won the ball from the defender with the high press, he raced into the box had Millenic Alli as an option but chose to go himself and fired past Harry Allen for his second goal of the game.

Town boss Chris Millington made three changes at the break with Tom Scott replaced Sam Johnson, Tom Clarke replaced a trialist and a trialist replaced a trialist.

The Shaymen continued to dominate possession at the start of the second half and the best effort came from Galvin who drove forward, his shot from distance forced the goalkeeper into a save and he parried out for a corner.

On 60 minutes, Town boss Chris Millington made several changes with Jordan Keane, Ted Lavelle, Andrew Oluwabori, Angelo Cappello, Rob Harker and three trialists all on for the final 30 minutes.

Town were denied a fifth goal, a cross from the right-hand side was met by Harker and he slotted home, but the offside flag was up against the frontman.

A good run by Oluwabori into the box, his shot hit a defender and went out for a corner before he unleashed an effort narrowly wide of the target.

A shot was blocked by the Farsley keeper, came out to the trialist (no 3) for the Shaymen and his effort was over the goalkeeper but hit the bar and Farsley were able to clear to deny a fifth goal.

The bar came to the home sides rescue again as Harker’s effort beat the goalkeeper again but hit the top of the woodwork and out for a goal kick.

Town were forced into a final substitute as trialist (no 3) was replaced by Cooke with three minutes remaining.

There was still time for Cappello who skipped past the goalkeeper and his shot was cleared off the line to deny a fifth goal.

The Shaymen are back in action on Wednesday with two games. First up they will face a Sheffield United XI at St George’s Park at 1pm (behind closed doors) and then will travel to Buxton on Wednesday evening, 7.45pm kick-off.
