History could be made on Tuesday night at the MBi Shay Stadium, as FC Halifax Town aim to reach the 2nd round of the Emirates FA Cup for the very first time in the club’s new format.
National League side Dagenham and Redbridge are the team standing in their way from that becoming a reality. However, Dagenham come into the replay off the back of a surprising 5-0 defeat at home to Gateshead so it will be tough to call what side will turn up to the Shay.
Halifax defended valiantly down at Victoria Road to force the tie to a replay and had a number of wonderful chances to clinch the game.
Town have been knocked out at the first round proper stage of the competition in the past three seasons – losing 4-0 to Wycombe Wanderers last season. We should be in for an exciting encounter on Tuesday night and hope to see as many Shaymen supporters as possible.
Should the Shaymen be triumphant on Tuesday night, all eyes will immediately look at Swindon Town vs Eastleigh’s result to see who Billy Heath’s men will face in the 2nd round.
The national league side won a trip to Swindon’s County Ground after an impressive 1-1 performance in the live Friday night game. Eastleigh shocked the League Two side by taking the lead just past the hour mark – only to see their lead last for five minutes.
There is a total of 16 first round replays (including The Shaymen) that will take place throughout the week.
Westfields FC are the lowest ranked club to make the FA Cup first round this season and the joint lowest ever to make it to this stage of the competition. The Midland Football League club hosted fellow national league north side Curzon Ashton in the previous fixture, and were 9 minutes away from recording an historic victory and passage into the 2nd round but were denied by substitute Adam Morgan who pounced on a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
Whoever claims victory in the replay on Monday night will be playing host to League One Sides Bury or AFC Wimbledon- a great reward then for the supporters whose team progresses.
Brackley Town, who recorded a surprising 3-1 victory against Halifax in recent weeks, have an enjoyable Wednesday evening ahead of them as they host League One side Gillingham. The National League North outfit knocked the Gills out at this stage in 2013, and looked set to do so again when Alex Grudger and James Armson opened them up into a two-goal lead.
A Frank Nouble double had Gillingham level by half-time in an incredible opening 45 minutes, yet the goals dried up and neither side could find a winner in the second half.
Another national league side are in action on Tuesday night as Alfreton travel to south Wales to face League Two side Newport County after fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw.
You can keep up with all the action from the MBI Shay as well as around the grounds on Tuesday night via the Shaymen Wall. Commentary of FC Halifax Town vs Dagenham vs Redbridge will be live on Shaymen Player HD from 7:30pm. Kick-off 7:45 pm.
