FC Halifax Town started the season with a 4-1 victory over Ebbsfleet United at the Kufflink Stadium

We spoke to Cameron King after the game

He told the official website, โ€œWe spoke about getting off to a great start at the hotel last night. We did it last as year as well, obviously we didnโ€™t keep it going, so hopefully this year we can get more of a foothold in the league and push on, because the boys were excellent today.โ€

โ€œThe sending off obviously helped, but against ten men it can be tough sometimes, especially in my position- if Iโ€™m playing as a 10, youโ€™ve got the two centre halfโ€™s behind me and the two centre mids in front and every time I get the ball theyโ€™re just going to close the space, so it was certainly frustrating, trying to get the ball as much as I could and it was always going to take time to break them down.โ€

A number of new signings made their competitive debuts for Town this afternoon and King said; โ€œTheyโ€™re great team players, thereโ€™s a really good core, weโ€™ve got a great chemistry about the team, so theyโ€™ve had to come in, make sure theyโ€™re the right players, and not disrupt that. The boys have been excellent so far, itโ€™s been a pleasure to be part of the team this pre-season and I hope it stays that way and we can push on.โ€

The former Norwich man may have a job on his hands to snatch the Goal of the Season award away from Nathan Clarke, though.

โ€œIโ€™m going to have pull something out the bag at some stage!โ€ King said. โ€œI couldnโ€™t be happier for him, it was absolutely superb, and you can tell by the boysโ€™ reaction after how much he means to the side.โ€

King scored Townโ€™s first goal of the new season after 10 minutes and said heโ€™s aiming to add more to his tally throughout the campaign.

โ€œItโ€™s something Iโ€™ve been working on. Last season I didnโ€™t have enough shots and I didnโ€™t score enough goals, itโ€™s something I need to add to my game. The gaffer spoke to me about it before the game and all week, so adding goals to my game is certainly something I need to improve. Youโ€™re not going to score if you donโ€™t shoot, and today proved that. It had a little bit of movement, and the keeper spilled it.โ€

Town are back in action on Tuesday night with our first home game of the season against Hartlepool United, 7.45pm kick-off
