Following FC Halifax Town’s 1-0 defeat away at Eastleigh, manager Chris Millington spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It’s like the story of the season so far,” Millington said. “We had a good start to the game, a good 20-minute period of an away performance at a difficult place to come. We had a couple of shots off Kian and one, albeit a little bit wild, off Jordan Keane. We had a couple of opportunities with balls bouncing around the box and the result is we get a penalty. We then miss that penalty and within seconds the ball is in the back of our net. I’m not too sure how it happened to be honest, I’ll need to see it back to fully understand what went on. That’s the story of our season so far, we do some things well and we control certain aspects of the game but we don’t take advantage of that. We don’t take advantage of our chances and we’re the ones who end up going behind, it’s very frustrating.”

Town had the majority of possession and chances in the second half; however, the hosts were happy to defend their one goal lead.

“It’s easy to have possession when you’re chasing a game,” Millington told Shaymen TV. “It’s easy when you’re at that stage of the game but I’d argue we also had the better of the possession before the goal so not a huge amount changed. But we need to doย more with that possession, we have to create more chances off the back of it. It was a dissimilar performance to that of Aldershot in the sense that we’ve had the possession and chances but we’re still the ones coming licking our wounds and being disappointed with getting beaten. So, quite frankly, I’ll let the opposition have all the ball if it means we can win 1-0 next week, I’m not really interested in how much we have, it’s what we do with it when we’ve got it that matters.”

Town’s next fixture sees Woking visit the Shay and Millington will be doing all he can to get three points.

“It’s been very frustrating so far,” Millington said. “We’re not where we should be, it’s not where we want to be and the only thing that will change that is working harder, showing more grit and determination. We need to do more when we’ve got possession and we need to work harder to get the ball in the back of the net. I’ll need to look at some selection solutions to make that happen, we’ll look at this week. We’ll re-double our efforts and we’ll work incredibly hard to get the right result next Saturday. I just want to reassure people, there is no club in the National League that works harder than we do, I also don’t believe that there’s a group of staff who care more than we do and desperately want to get the results that the town deserves. So that’s what we’ll do, it’s the only thing we know how to do, we’ll go there, work hard, and do everything we can to try and get the result and fix the situation.”
