Following FC Halifax Town’s 4-0 victory over Eastleigh, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
“I’m over the moon,” Wild said. “We have had some tough away games in recent weeks so to come back here and get the win is great. We look a little out of kilter in the first half. We aren’t used to teams sitting off of us so it was a bit of a shock. It took a bit of time to get going but with a tweak here and there at half time and we got the win in style.”
Town opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after Jordan Slew nicked the ball back high up the pitch which left him one-on-one with the keeper.
“Those are the things you need,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “You need that little bit of luck and that little bit of something to go your way. Then, when it does go your way you can be pleased. It was a really nice far post finish from Jordan to top it off as well.”
Jamie Allen netted Town’s third goal of the game as he marked his return from injury after replacing Matty Stenson who had also returned from injury to make his first start of the season.
“We’re really pleased for Jamie,” Wild said. “Harvey had picked up an injury so we had to put Matty Stenson in. We’re over the moon for Matty to come back in with all the hard work he has put and he really grew into the game. We knew he wouldn’t last the full match so we had Jamie ready to come on. We were a bit worried about how long we would get out of Jamie. We decided to put him central and it is a great finish.”
The Shaymen host Grimsby Town on Tuesday night in the return fixture. Wild is hoping for a similar performance against one of the league’s top sides.
“I’m really excited for it,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “They haven’t had a game today. They put together a really good game plan against us last time. We’ll have to counteract any plan they have for Tuesday. But that’s what coaching is all about so the staff and I will be sat down tomorrow concocting a plan.
