FC Halifax Town recorded a hard-earned 3-1 victory at Dover Athletic yesterday afternoon. After the match, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV.

Halifax made it a fast start when Billy Waters was played through on goal and calmly slotted past Adam Parkes after eight minutes, and the Shaymen led until Ben Williamson’s equaliser in the 76th minute. However, that draw didn’t last long, as Kieran Green headed Town ahead three minutes later, and before Waters got his second of the game to make it 3-1.

Wild started the interview by giving his thoughts on the game; “I thought we had to work really hard for that victory. We started well with a good early goal, and I thought we were on top for the first twenty minutes,” he explained. “We let Dover grow into the game and they put us under a lot of pressure from the set pieces and hitting us with the big diagonals – we found it hard to stay in the game come half time. But we got a foothold in the second half, and when they blew out of gas, we had to get a second, which we did – albeit after their equaliser. Overall, it’s been a tough encounter on a tough pitch.”

The Gaffer then went into more detail on dealing with Dover’s threat; “A lot of set-pieces for them but we defended well,” Wild said. “They put us under a lot of pressure, and they’re a team that will start taking points off clubs. We stopped being us, so at half time I spoke about us keeping the ball more and creating attacks. We did that at times today, but they stopped us at what we are good at.”

Wild then turned attention to the fans – the superstars off the pitch; “The support was unbelievable today,” Pete stated. “I’m really pleased with the number of fans, and I want to thank you for coming to such a far away game.”

He ended the feature by looking ahead to Halifax’s next game which is on Tuesday night against Wrexham at the Shay Stadium; “This is a really big week for us, and we go into Tuesday night with all the pressure being on Wrexham,” stated the Gaffer. I’m excited about the game, and there are some amazing Tuesday nights at the Shay, so I would say get yourself out and support the boys.“
