FC Halifax Town were defeated 1-0 against Dorking Wanderers this afternoon in the Vanarama National League.

Town came close to an instant goal with Tylor Golden finding Luke Summerfield at the edge of the area with a strike forcing goalkeeper Harrison Male into a fine save.

The momentum continued with the home side early with Adam Senior trying his luck from long range, but it was Male who denied the Shaymen once again.

The main instrument for the hosts was Golden, who was proving to be a nuisance down the right-hand side. The right back cut inside and also tried a shot on his left but hardly troubled the keeper.

Dorking grabbed thir first main opportunity with both hands after a well-worked corner routine, George Francomb’s cross found the head of captain Tony Craig to take the lead just after the half hour mark.

Town looked to respond in the dying moments in the first half with Ryan Galvin down the left hand side, but was taken down by a poor challenge from Francomb. The Dorking defender was the first player to be booked by referee Andrew Humphries.

Both sides looked to turn the tides of the game with substitutions being made simultaneously in the second half. Dorking’s Harry Ottaway was brought on for Tom Blair while Jack Evans was subbed on for Cummings in the 58th minute.

Golden took Town’s 5th corner of the game, and Luke Summerfield beat his man at the edge of the area and had a strike which was narrowly wide.

Max Wright was brought on for Jamie Cooke in the 66th minute while James McShane for the vistors was brought on a minute later.

Town’s frustrations in the final third continued as Alli went down inside the penalty area. However, the referee thought that there wasn’t enough contact on the Town forward.

Substitute Wright looked to break into the penalty area once again but was stopped by a late challenge from Bobby Joe Taylor.

Dorking made their final change in the 83rd minute with Callum Kennedy being subbed on for Bobby Joe Taylor.

Rob Harker also looked to make a late impact but headed wide from a tight angle.

Substitute Aaron Cosgrave came on for Jack Hunter and had a best chance to snatch a late point but a last-ditch challenge from the Dorking defence carried the ball out for a corner.

Male was added to the referee’s book for continuous timewasting.

However, Town will be left ruing their missed chances as the game ended 1-0 to Dorking Wanderers, ending the 6-game unbeaten streak for home side. A game filled with chances for the home side but missed changes in the final third cost The Shaymen cost the side points.

Town are back in action next Tuesday away at Chesterfield with a 7:45pm kick off.
