There is quite a long list of players who have featured for both Halifax Town and Doncaster Rovers. We will look at some of them.

The first player we will look at ahead of this friendly is Jason Blunt. The midfielder was with Halifax Town for the 2004/05 season, making 25 appearances and scoring once in his only season at the Shay. Despite being contracted for another season, he was loaned out to Scarborough in search of more game time, a move which appeared to be unsuccessful. Blunt joined the Shaymen after an impressive season with Tamworth, making an astonishing 50 appearances in one season. His previous club was Doncaster where it didn’t appear to work out, as he only managed to receive 13 appearances for the club but did score on three occasions.

Our next club connection is a goalkeeper who had three spells with Halifax Town, his latest being between 2005 and 2008. Lee Butler made 133 appearances for the Shaymen in total over his three spells with the club. In 2002, Butler had a short spell with Doncaster making ten starts before returning to the Shay later that year. Lee is currently the goalkeeping coach at Bolton Wanderers.

From the back to the front, striker Andy Campbell played for Halifax Town between 2006 and 2008. He scored 12 goals in his 52 appearances for the club. He spent half a season on loan at Doncaster in 2005, having been property of Cardiff City. This spell didn’t prove too successful, appearing only three times. After leaving Halifax in 2008, Campbell made his way around some Yorkshire non-league sides, hanging up his boots at Whitby Town in 2012.

We’re rolling back the years with our next Halifax and Doncaster star in the form of Joe Dubois. The Northern Irish wide man finished his footballing career at the Shay in 1957 having featured 78 times, scoring ten times. He spent three years with Donny between 1949 and 1952 where he only managed to make 31 appearances, but he did score five times from out wide.

Our final player of study ahead of our clash with Doncaster is a player who has a high number of appearances for both Yorkshire clubs. Steven Gaughan played here at the Shay between 1999 and 2001, appearing 47 times and scoring once, and he made 20 more appearances at Doncaster between 1988 and 1990. The midfielder was a regular for the club in his two years there. He scored three times. Gaughan has become something of a club legend at Darlington having made over 200 appearances for the club.
