Kieran Green was FC Halifax Town’s match-winner yesterday evening when his 13th-minute header from a corner saw the Shaymen defeat Dagenham 1-0 at the Shay Stadium.

Green spoke to Shaymen TV after the final whistle and began by giving his assessment on his goal. “We worked on that goal in training, it was about finishing inside their six-yard box,” he stated. “Today you saw a great ball into the area by Matt Warburton, and that didn’t give me much else to do. Set-pieces are important in this league because sometimes they are all you get like we showed tonight – it won us the game, and it cost them.”

There was talk a couple of weeks ago after a match that Town narrowly won, that if it was played last season then Halifax may not have seen the game through. The result against Dagenham was another close-fought run-in, but the Shaymen saw it through – so what is different to this team compared to last season’s team?

“There’s a real hunger in this team to hold onto what we have got,” Green explained. “We really want to hold onto this form, and I think I did say it a couple of weeks ago that last season when we reflected back, there was a couple of games where we’d go 1-0 up and end up drawing or losing. So, that was a lot of points dropped at the end of the season – we scored early today and saw it out so in comparison that will be beneficial come the end of the season – every point matters.”

The Shaymen will look ahead to their next match now, which is on Saturday away at Bromley; “That will be a tough game,” Green said when looking at the next opponent. “They will be physical, but I think we can match them – I certainly do.”

Kieran ended the feature by talking about one of his old clubs, in the shape of Blyth Spartans – where current Town winger Dom Tear is out on loan at; “I was at Blyth before and I loved it up there,” he stated. “They have great fans and are a brilliant club – it was my first real break really because I went there on loan from Gateshead. I loved it there, so I spoke to Dom before he went and said listen, you will really like it up there if you get the fans on your side.”
