FC Halifax Town were held to a 0-0 draw against Dagenham and Redbridge this evening in the Vanarama National League.

It was the away side starting brightly as Sydney Ibie laid off Ryan Hill at the edge of the box, but it was a timid effort which met a deflection.

Moments later, Conor Lawless had the chance to punish an error from Jo Cummings but was tipped away from Town ‘keeper Sam Johnson.

Ibie looked be an early menace for Town’s defence as he darted his way into the box but was stopped by Cummings. The centre back showcasing defensive brilliance after his earlier mistake.

The Shaymen looked to break away on the other end as Angelo Cappello fed the ball to Millenic Alli who’s strike took and rattled the side netting to win a corner. Ryan Galvin’s ball bounced into the heart of the box with Jamie Cooke’s effort being blocked by several bodies scrambling in the Dagenham area.

Jack Evans made a great interception in midfield and Alli had the best chance of the first half, breaking through the Dagenham defence, but ended up caught in his own feet and maybe in two minds.

The away side went on to show more cracks in their defence as Cooke won the ball in the final third and found Cappello outside the box but was denied by a great save by ‘keeper Elliot Justham.

Dagenham looked to respond in the dying minutes of the first half through Hill but was taken down by a reckless challenge from Galvin who was booked in the 42nd minute.

The momentum shifted to the away side as Hill’s shot was saved by Johnson, but the rebound from Lawless was high and wide. A rare chance squandered, and the first half ended goalless with both sides struggling for quality in the final third.

The second half started with the Shaymen applying relentless pressure but to no avail. Cappello won the ball back in midfield but was dragged down by a challenge from Harry Phipps who was booked in the 51st minute.

Alli responded with a brilliant challenge and found Cappello who looked to break the deadlock all on his own, but his shot ended up bouncing off the side netting.

Dagenham responded with a corner finding a man at the back post but was foiled by a brilliant save by Johnson.

Cooke was subbed off in the 58th minute for Florent Hoti. His competitive debut for the Shaymen after looking impressive in pre-season.

There was a cry of frustration from the away fans as Evans made the rash challenge inside the box, but no penalty was given.

Dagenham made a double change as Charley Kendall and Freddie Sears were brought on for Ibie and Keenan Appiah-Forson in the 65th minute, The Shaymen made their second change as Max Wright was brought on for Andrew Oluwabori a minute later.

Omar Mussa was added to the referee’s book in the 70th minute after another harsh challenge. Another 2 players were added to the book being Cappello after a poor challenge and Hill for arguing with referee Richard Aspinall. Evans was also booked in the 77th minute.

Cappello provided Alli with the best chance of the whole game as a clear cross into the box fell to the head of the Town winger but was straight at Justham.

Dagenham made their final change with Josh Rees being brought on for Mussa in the 84th minute.

The final whistle blew at The Shay with 0-0 being the final score. It’s now four games without a win for the Shaymen.

FC Halifax Town are back in action this Saturday at The Shay against Eastleigh with a 3pm kick-off.
