FC Halifax Town’s final pre-season friendly ended in a 1-0 win away at Curzon Ashton

In a quiet opening 45 minutes, Trialist C came close with five minutes until the break. Some good individual skill opened up the space on the edge of the box, but his effort went narrowly wide.

Just one minute later and it was a similar story. Breaking through the defence, Trialist C had a go from closer range, but couldn’t curl it on target.

The best chance of the half fell to AJ Warburton in added time. Trialist A floated a cross in towards the back post, and after a few ricochets, it fell to Warburton but his effort couldn’t beat Aidan Dowling.

Town again came close just past the hour mark. A shot from Trialist C had the beating of Dowling but came back off the post. Substitute Owen Bray followed up on the rebound, but couldn’t find the target.

A free kick from Trialist C provided Town’s next opportunity. A deep cross towards the far side of the box found the head of Shaun Hobson, but his header could only land on the roof of the net.

With ten minutes left to play, Curzon Ashton had a great chance to open the scoring. A low ball into the box was struck first time, but the effort flew narrowly wide of the top corner.

Just three minutes later, and Arian Allen was brought down inside the box. Conor Carty stepped up to take the penalty, and fired beyond Dowling to make it 1-0.
