Curzon Ashton: Match Report

FC Halifax Town wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a confident 2-0 win over Curzon Ashton FC at The Tameside Stadium.

It took until the stroke of half-time before The Shaymen broke the deadlock. A well-delivered corner found Jamie Cooke, who rose highest in the box and powered a header into the back of the net to give Town a deserved lead going into the break.

The goal had been coming. Town gradually took control of the first half, growing more dominant as the minutes passed. Flo Hoti, Will Harris, and Cooke all came close, with a string of promising attacks building pressure on the visitors. At the other end, Sam Johnson was called into play a couple of times, reacting sharply and coming off his line well to keep the home side at bay.

Just minutes after the restart, Town doubled their lead. A piercing through ball from Jamie Cooke split the defence, finding Owen Bray in space on the right. He squared it unselfishly across the goal for Will Harris, who was on hand to tap in from close range.

Town continued to control the tempo in the second half. Their attacking intent remained clear, and the best of the chances fell to Thierry Latty-Fairweather, who was played through down the left after some smart build-up play. His effort, however, was deflected narrowly wide of the far post.

The first substitution came midway through the second half, with Flo Hoti forced off due to injury and replaced by Angelo Cappello. Soon after, David Kawa and Charlie Jenkins entered the action in place of Will Harris and Owen Bray. As the game progressed, Hayes-Green, Sutcliffe, Tarima, and Warburton were also introduced, with Adetoro, Hobson, Crowe, and Cooke making way.

It was a strong final showing from The Shaymen in good form heading into the new campaign.

Up next for Town is their first game of the 2025/26 Enterprise National League season, as they make the trip to Braintree Town next Saturday.
