FC Halifax Town completed their pre-season friendlies with a 0-0 draw away at Curzon Ashton.

Town started on the front foot, an early effort from Adan George was straight at the home goalkeeper Bobby Jones.

Good play down the left-hand side saw Tom Pugh find Adan George, his shot on the turn wasn’t far away but out for a goal kick.

Sam Johnson had to be alert less than a minute later, Spencer played in behind, but the Town keeper was able to claim at his feet.

A freekick from the home side into the box was headed at the far post over the bar by Devon Matthews in the 8th Minute in a good set piece for Ashton.

George had another opportunity in the 13th minute after Pugh had headed down to him but his shot was deflected but the ball was behind Jamie Cooke and the home side was able to clear.

In the 19th minute, the home side had a dangerous freekick after a high foot on Sols. His effort was never troubling Sam Johnson and over the bar.

A ball into the box following a short corner wasn’t dealt with. It dropped in the box, Spencer tried to get onto it, but Johnson dealt with it.

Town were forced into an early substitution with Max Wright replaced due to injury by Andrew Oluwabori

George out for Oluwabori for his first touches down the right-hand side, he looked to get the ball into the box towards Cooke but Jones was able to claim.

Oluwabori fouled in the build up but managed to find George, laid it off for Pugh but his effort was narrowly wide of the target

Town continued to have possession, Oluwabori took his man on and cut inside, got inside the box and he looked find George in the box but cut out for a corner.

With just three minutes from half time, a throw in down the left-hand side found Buckley-Ricketts, past one challenge but effort was tame and straight at Johnson from 10 yards out.

There was still time for another chance at the end of the half, this time for Town. Senior’s first time cross was met by Tom Pugh but his effort unmarked was wide of the target.

At the start of the second half, Mols did well up against Adetoro, he got to the edge of the box but dragged his shot wide of Johnson’s left-hand post.

The best move of the game for the Shaymen came in the 55th minute. A good mazy run from Oluwabori, found Cappello on the left-hand side of the box. His chipped cross was tipped over the bar by the goalkeeper for a corner.

The home side worked the ball to Buckley-Ricketts, his effort beat Johnson but over the bar from the lively Curzon man.

Cappello down the left-hand side, his cross looked for George but found Pugh, but his effort was saved by the legs of the goalkeeper.

Town boss Chris Millington made a double change just after the hour mark Tom Pugh and Adan George replaced by Zak Emmerson and Jo Cummings.

Play needed to stop for treatment to Cummings shortly after coming off which gave chance for the players to get a drink and instructions from the management team. He was replaced by Festus Arthur.

Curzon Ashton made their final change in the 85th minute when former Town loanee George Waring came on for the remaining minutes for Devon Matthews.

Oluwabori was fouled on the right-hand side, Jenkins freekick looked for Adetoro at the far post but the offside flag was up against the Town defender.

Town’s final change saw Aaron Cosgrave on for midfielder Jack Jenkins with just over five minutes remaining.

Oluwabori raced towards goal but his effort was deflected wide for a Town corner but weren’t able to make anything from the corner which was cleared before a foul by Cosgrave trying to win the ball back.

The Shaymen will start the Vanarama National League season with a home game against Barnet next Saturday at the Shay, 3pm kick-off.
