Ahead of FC Halifax Townโ€™s clash game at Curzon Ashton at the weekend, weโ€™ve spoken to Curzon fan Joe Lawton about the Nashโ€™s season so far. Joeโ€™s dad Rod is the clubโ€™s all-time record goalscorer. Hereโ€™s what Joe had to say:

ย

How has the season gone so far?

Our league season isn’t going as well as we’d hoped, with us hovering just above the drop zone. But I’m confident we’ll pull away eventually, because we are a better team than our position suggests.

However, as many people will have seen, our fantastic FA Cup run has been a brilliant distraction. We have only been to the second round once before and our tie against Wimbledon will be on live TV, which will be amazing for the club. The win over York in the 4th qualifying round was a sign of how far we’ve come in the past 5 years, as we dominated a famous, old team all over the park.

What is the best ground you have visited following Curzon?

As happy as I am at being promoted into the National League, my favourite grounds are those in the Evo-Stik League, such as Clitheroe and Mossley. I much prefer the atmosphere and welcome at them, compared to the larger venues we visit now. If I were to pick a National League North ground, I would go for Harrogate Town, based on the feel of the ground and welcome received.

Who is the favourite player currently at Curzon?

My favourite player for Curzon is our captain, Alex Brown. He decided to retire in the summer, however was persuaded to return in September, which has been a real boost for the team. He’s such a classy player, so composed on the ball, and is such a great role model and leader for the team.

What are the aspirations for the rest of the season?

The FA Cup is where we are having our success this season, so as long as we remain in the league, I’ll be happy now. The club has made a lot of improvements off the pitch in order to be at the level we are on it, so it’s imperative we maintain that.

Who are the best team to have visited the Tameside Stadium this season?

The best side I’ve seen at the Tameside Stadium this season is Kidderminster, on the opening day. They won 6-1 and absolutely marmalised us! Salford looked solid as well, despite their recent dip in form.

What did you make of the last meeting between Curzon and Halifax, a 2-1 Nash win in 2010?

When we met in the Trophy, Halifax were a team who had pulled away from us, after a couple of consecutive promotions. So it was a huge, unexpected result for us to win and it got us to the First Round Proper for the first time in our history!

Finally Joe, what is your prediction for the game today?

My prediction for the game is an entertaining 1-1 draw, with Niall Cummins scoring our goal.

Keep an eye out over the rest of the season for some more away fan views.
