FC Halifax Town travelled to Clitheroe FC for our first game of pre-season. Despite taking a first half lead thanks to Matty Stenson, the second half team couldnโ€™t hold on to take the win.

Despite early Clitheroe pressure, it was the Shaymen that struck first courtesy of new signing Stenson. Jay Benn made a good clearance and found Jack Earing, who made a perfect pass to find Stenson one on one with the keeper. The striker made no mistake to slot it past the keeper and make it 1-0.

Clitheroe looked to get back level quickly as they had a succession of good crosses into the box well cleared by the Town defence.

Penalty appeals for Town as Stenson again got into the Clitheroe box. A heavy touch allowed the defenders to nick the ball from the forward, but Stenson appealed for handball with the referee waving play on.

During the break the Shaymen made 11 changes as Pete Wild experimented with the squad. Both sides got off to a quick side with Clitheroe putting the pressure on.

Town had another penalty appeal as Jeff King went down inside the box. After a good run down the right, King appeared to be pushed in the back, but the referee waved play on once again.

One of Halifaxโ€™s trialist made a great run through the middle beating a few players before being brought down 20-yards out. King stepped up to take and forced a good diving save out of the keeper.

The Shaymen grew into the game with a few good chances. Luke Summerfield saw a shot well saved before Jamie Allen had his curling effort drift narrowly wide of the top corner

With just over twenty minutes left, Clitheroe levelled the score thanks to substitute Kieran Adams. After a few good blocks the ball fell to Adams who made no mistake in driving the ball into the bottom corner.

With just a few minutes left on the clock, Clitheroe won the game. A good cross in towards the back post was met by Adams who smashed it past the Trialist keeper to make it 2-1.

The hosts held on for the final minutes to win 2-1. The Shaymen travel to Guiseley in our second pre-season friendly this Saturday 1PM kick off.
