Cliff Moyo believes FC Halifax Town are back on their feet, and are looking to climb up the league with victory against Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

Last week’s comfortable 4-0 victory away at Ashton Athletic in the FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifier was the lift the team needed according to the Shaymen right-back.

“The result against Ashton was just what the team needed. The lads played some really good stuff at times and overall it’s given the dressing room morale a big boost. Those kind of fixtures can sometimes catch the bigger team out, thankfully it didn’t and it’s got us back onto our feet” said Moyo.

The Shaymen have come under some heavy criticism at times in the past few weeks in regards to the defence, with Ashton being only the 2rd clean sheet for Billie Heath’s side in seven games.

“Whoever you face you always want a clean sheet” admitted Moyo. “To get one under our belt, especially after the recent weeks was a good feeling, especially for Drenchy (Steven Drench). It’s fair to say he’s been the most frustrated out of all of us with him picking the ball out of his own net far too often. So yes to get the clean sheet on top of scoring a fair amount was just what this group of lads needed”.

The Shaymen return to league action on Saturday in an eagerly anticipated local derby against Braford Park Avenue. The Yorkshire side however have had a torrid start to the season, with manager Alex Meechan’s side yet to record a victory and taking just three points in the opening 11 games.

Moyo however is not taking them lightly. “The aim is pretty clear, we want to carry the form across from the cup and into the league so we can start to climb as quickly as we can but we know it’s not going to be easy.

“With it being a derby you try to not look too much into it, as it can put unnecessary pressure on us which we don’t need at this moment in time” said Moyo.

“But at the same time whenever you play a local side, you want to impress and you certainly don’t want to lose. We’re confident that we can get the result but Bradford do like to get the ball down and play so we have to wary of that”.

“Saturday at the Shay should be a good one for the supporters. I’m sure they’ll be up it and will get behind the lads” said Moyo.
