FC Halifax Town held on for a 3-2 against strugglers Chesterfield. Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV after the game to give his thoughts, views on the first half performance, the fans, current injuries, and looking ahead to Yeovil on Saturday.

On the game…

He said: “First half we played well. We did a lot of things right. But I still thought we were a little bit sloppy. At half time I demanded more and wanted more. I thought we were sloppy in possession. We came out second half, got a goal. But then we sat off them and let them back in the game. We were too deep in possession. We panicked a little bit. You can’t drop that deep and invite teams onto you. On the flip side of that, you’ve seen a team that’s shown resilience again. The team has got over the line, we’ve found a way to win. You’ve got to remember we’ve played nine games in four weeks. We still put our bodies on the line.”

The first half performance…

He said: “We looked comfortable at half time. But in football that’s always a nervous point when you look at it. The next goal can always put you on the back foot. The message at half time was to drive forward, we need more. We got that for five, ten minutes. But then their goal rocked us. We were quite frustrated. We brought subs on to try and change things and make it better. Try and shore things up. We got over the line so that’s the most important thing.”

The fans…

He said: “The fans are unbelievable. They keep coming in numbers. We spoke before the game on Saturday about can we break that 2000 mark. We did that Saturday and we were really pleased and proud to get a performance. 480-odd fans here tonight, they were fantastic. Thank you because it’s your support that has got us over the line today.”

The injuries…

He said: “Matty Brown is probably going to be out for about three to four weeks, at most. He’ll work hard and get himself fit and get back where needs to be. Niall Maher is progressing well. Probably about another five to six weeks. Dayle Southwell is back on the grass. We’ve got a behind closed doors game on Tuesday, hopefully we’ll be able to get him some minutes then.”

Looking ahead to Yeovil…

He said: “Yeovil are on back to back wins. I knew they’d get up to form at some point. It’ll be another good test in front of our home crowd. We’ve got to stop worrying about anyone else and just worry about what we do. If we keep doing things right and keep getting over the line, then we can just focus on us.”
