The Shaymen grabbed a late goal to make it 1-1 against rivals Harrogate Town on New Years day. Manager Jamie Fullarton spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.
He said: “Well obviously when you lose such a poor goal early on in a derby game like we did today, I think we had the boots on the wrong feet for the first 20 minutes”
Thomson grabbed the early goal in the 6th minute although it was a bizarre goal to break the deadlock, but he did think that “the way we played in that first 20 minutes and the comedy of errors to lead to such a goal reflected the way that we played”.
Although the first 20 minute was a very poor start to the game “then the game evened out and it was nip and tuck for the last 20 minutes of the first half” but there was not much for him to say in the break. After the break he “thought second half we did that much better and we improved”.
Jonathan Edwards replaced Dayle Southwell late in the second half and did increase the momentum and Jamie said that “I’m pleased that Jonny scored but overall his contribution was positive and its resulted in us getting something from the game”.
With set pieces being a big positive of our play over the season he did say that “It’s something we work on diligently during the week” but are “looking to create opportunities from open play and it’s something that as we move onto Saturday”.
The double header against local rivals Harrogate did look like a test with them being at top 6 side 4 points from the two games is great and he thought that’s “it’s something we deserved”.
Back at the Shay against Braintree Town he does think that it will be a “difficult game for different reasons” and “What’s important Is that we start the game like we finished today”
