Pre-season has run its course and we’re now less than a day away until the first Vanarama National League game of the 2018/19 season. FC Halifax Town will be travelling to Essex to take on newly promoted Braintree Town at their Cressing Road Stadium.
The official website spoke to Town’s top scorer in pre-season, Dayle Southwell, to ask him how he thought pre-season had gone:
“I think pre-season has gone ok. We’re a relatively new side gelling together so it’s took time for everyone to come together. We’ve had a couple of niggles here and there, so it’s been hard to get our full team settled, but hopefully come 4th August we’ll be firing and ready to go. We’re really looking forward to it”.
Dayle then went on to reiterate how excited the team was to get the new campaign underway:
“We can’t wait, everything is geared up towards that first game of the season. We’ve worked hard in training and not everything came off in pre-season but we’re hoping everything clicks come that first game”.
Braintree Town finished 6th in the Vanarama National League South last season and won promotion via the playoffs. With the Shaymen now a fully professional squad, we asked Dayle if he thought we’d be too much for the newcomers:
“I hope so. They’ll be a team that have got a winning mentality already having come up from the league below. It’s going to be a tough game, it always is away at Braintree but hopefully we will have enough to get the win”.
Dayle is Town’s top goal scorer in pre-season, having scored 4 goals in 6 games. When asked if he had set himself a target number of goals this season, he was quite coy:
“I set myself targets in my own head. I don’t like to say them publicly, so I’ll keep them to myself, keep working hard and hopefully I’ll meet them targets. Then hopefully that’ll help us do well”.
We’re certainly hoping that Town will do well also.
