Ahead of Saturday’s visit to Boston United, we caught up with Liam King to discuss the game, the FA Cup draw, and a big week ahead for the Shaymen…
Captain Liam King is happy to be returning to league action after the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round, but believes the draw, which has pitched the Shaymen against Dagenham and Redbridge is favourable.
“We’d have preferred a home draw, but regardless, we’ll go there and try to get a result. We’d have liked a bigger team or a team around you, but we go as underdogs so let’s see what we can do,” said King.
Onto the Boston game, and King is confident Halifax can make it six wins in a row at the Jakeman’s Stadium.
“Boston are a really good side, but we’re in really good form now so they’re going to fear us. We’re expecting a tough game, but we know we can win and we’ll go there with the belief that we can win.”
“I don’t really like to think too much about who I score against, but I’ve scored against Boston a few times! I’m always looking to score goals.”
With three games in a week, it will be a difficult seven days for Town, but King says the team is only taking it game by game.
“You go into every game wanting to win and at the minute we’ve got something that’s working so we’ll stick to that. At Halifax, we go into every game wanting to win it and that’s what we’ll continue to do. We’ve got the momentum and he have to keep that going.”
And as far as the early race for promotion, the captain says the league this year is tougher than ever.
“With five wins on the bounce you’d expect us to be higher up the table, but everyone has stepped It up this year – if you look AFC Fylde, Harrogate, and Salford – they’ve all invested so it’s a difficult league, but we’re Halifax Town and we’ve got the belief we can do it.”
