Following FC Halifax Town’s final pre-season friendly resulting in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Boston United, manager Jamie Fullarton offered his thoughts on the game and looked ahead to the first game of the season.

“It’s about preparation for next week and whilst losing any game, whether it’s a friendly game or even a training game, you’ve got to put it into context on what our approach is and our aim is to be ready for next week”, stated the Town boss.

“From it we’ve learnt quite a lot today. It’s highlighted a number of things that we’re going to work on, and things that we’ll look to strengthen as we approach the opening game.”

He continued: “You’ll find that players, when it gets to the stage that there’s three points at stake, it will trigger the different mind-set and mentality. Today was about getting more minutes in to the leg and more intensity, and it enables us to be prepared ready for next week.”

When questioned on whether he would opt a similar starting eleven on the opening day of the season, Fullarton replied: “No. Again, there’s lots of changes and lots of things that can happen this week. It’s that old cliché that a week in football is a long time, and I think that’s true as we look towards that game.”

“We’ll reflect on today, on the last six weeks and what we’ve built towards it and the games along with the training are for everyone to reach the position where are able to be selected for next week. We’ll look at what Braintree are and the team that we believe can win the game.”

Winger Josh MacDonald is continuing his stay with the Shaymen, by signing a new one year contract, and Fullarton expressed his delight at the deal: “It’s fantastic! An all-round big advocate of that happening. I’m glad we’ve managed to get it over the line and obviously unfortunately for Josh, at this stage he will be injured.”

“It will be some time before we can have him in and about, but I’m really looking forward to working with him and I’m pleased about that.”

Fullarton’s team will face Braintree Town on the opening day of the season, at Cressing Road.
