FC Halifax Town returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win against Boreham Wood in the Vanarama National League.

The away side started brightly in the opening minutes as Cameron Coxe and Angelo Balanta had the first attempts of the game.

However, it was the Shaymen who took an early lead with a cross from Jack Evans which met the head of Rob Harker, he hit the post and Florent Hoti struck home the rebound in the 6th minute. His 5th goal of the season.

Town looked eager to increase their lead winning a free kick just outside the box. Midfielder Luke Summerfield looked to find the top corner, but it was just over the crossbar.

Tylor Golden also had an eye for goal as his left-footed attempt was saved by Wood’s keeper Nathan Ashmore.

A long ball almost caught Town on the other end, but forward Lee Ndlovu couldn’t take the chance as his shot missed the near corner.

Billy Sass-Davies was booked in the 38th minute after a foul on Andrew Oluwabori.

Town displayed some brilliant link-up play from Max Wright to send Summerfield through on goal, but the angle was too tight as he tried to round the goalkeeper.

The Wood looked to apply pressure in the closing minutes of the first half as Matt Robison played in a through ball to Balanta inside the box, but Adam Senior brilliantly denied the midfielder with a strong block.

To start the second half, Town had back-to-back corners to start the second half with Kane Thompson-Sommers had a strike from long range which was safely in the arms of Ashworth.

Sam Johnson was booked for time-wasting in the 57th minute.

Hoti was played behind the Boreham defence by Rob Harker, cut inside into the box but the shot was deflected out for a corner.

Both sides made changes with Town bringing on Aaron Cosgrave for Max Wright and Tom Whelan replacing Balanta.

Jamal Fyfield’s shot was blocked by Senior for a corner and after several bodies in the box, Golden got the crucial block to retain the lead for Town.

On the other end, Town had a great chance to double the lead with Cosgrave playing in Harker, but was denied by Ashmore.

Whelan’s free-kick was headed home by Ndlovu to give Boreham the equaliser in the 77th minute.

Golden looked to drive the ball forward from the right-hand side and got taken down by Bush inside the box to win a penalty. Summerfield sent Ashmore the wrong way to take the lead in the 81st minute.

Town made their second change of the game with Jack Hunter replacing Golden in the 85th minute. The final change was Jack Jenkins replacing Hoti.

The fourth official indicated 6 minutes of added time.

The final whistle blew at The Shay and Halifax Town came out with all 3 points. A good way to bounce back after a tough defeat to Bromley last weekend.

Town will be back in action at The Shay this Tuesday against Oldham with a 7:45 pm kick-off.
