FC Halifax Town players brought smiles to our faces this rainy afternoon with a 1:0 win against Boreham Wood at the Shay.

Town came into the game looking for a fourth consecutive home win in the National League, after victory against Oldham back in October. Shaymen top-scorer Emmanuel Dieseruvwe goal was absent at today’s game due to suspension and replaced in the starting lineup by Rob Harker, the only change from last week’s draw at Bromley

Town were quickly on the offensive with a dangerous strike from outside the box by Luke Summerfield after a cross by Angelo Cappello, which was saved by away goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore in the 6th minute of the game.

The atmosphere around players was warmed up by Jack Hunter tackle on the opponent , which referee granted with a yellow card.

Town had opportunities in the first half from Summerfield and Cappello, but both chances were saved by then Boreham Wood keeper. Visiting defender Will Evans almost handed Town the opening goal when he headed the ball dangerously in front of his own goalkeeper in the 21st minute.

A good-looking corner for Boreham Wood created the first chance of the second half, with a shot on target at the back post blocked on the line by Summerfield in the 50th minute.

Harker’s shot hit the post as he got away from the defender in a one-man counter-attack after receiving a through ball. The striker didn‘t have to wait too much longer to open the scoring in the 59th minute, as Nathan Ashmore spilled Gilmour’s long range effort into the path of Harker, who was left with a simple task to tap the ball in from three yards.

In the last minutes of the game Jamie Stott put the ball in the back of the net from close range at the back, but it was ruled out for offside. Town held on across the seven minutes of added time to notch their fourth consecutive home win.
