FC Halifax Town claimed a late draw at Boreham Wood thanks to a late strike from Billy Waters.

Town took the lead through an own goal before being pegged back by Josh Rees. Former Shayman Scott Boden put the hosts 2-1 before Waters levelled with just over ten minutes left on the clock.

The hosts started the quicker of the two sides and looked to put the pressure on early. Defender Will Evans broke forward and his shot from distance was blocked on the edge of the box.

A succession of corners for Boreham Wood. The first was punched clear by Sam Johnson but kept alive by Boreham Wood as they forced a second corner. Once again, Johnson was on hand to punch the corner clear.

Town found the breakthrough just 22 minutes into the game. A set-piece wasn’t properly cleared by Boreham Wood and Billy Waters picked it up on the corner of the box and drove towards the byline. The forward fired a low cross in which was put in by a Boreham Wood player.

The lead didn’t last long as Boreham Wood netted in the 27th minute. Frankie Raymond fired a low shot into the box from 35-yards out. It was met on the way in by Josh Rees who diverted it past Johnson to make it 1-1.

The hosts continued to push and were rewarded in the 38th minute when former Shayman Scott Boden made it 2-1. A corner was swung in by Rees and the striker was free in the middle to head it past Johnson.

Following the break, neither side were able to fully take control of the game. A series of Town crosses were all defended well by the hosts as few clear-cut chances were made by either side.

Mendy was the first to receive a yellow card following a poor challenge on Tyrell Warren. From the free kick Town put a good ball into the box but the hosts got it clear again.

In one of The Shaymen’s best chances of the half, they struck the post. Waters did really well to make space to shoot from a tight angle. Nathan Ashmore could only tip it onto the post and behind for a corner as the hosts held onto the lead.

With just 12 minutes left on the clock, Town were level. Warren had a shot from distance blocked for a corner. Warburton swung it in and after a slight deflection it fell to Waters who made no mistake to make it 2-2.

Town host Stockport County next Saturday 3:00pm kick off.
