FC Halifax Town recorded their first victory of pre-season with a 3-1 win over Bolton B.
An early chance for Town came inside five minutes, Sam Johnson’s long ball fell nicely to AJ Warburton. His shot was on target but saved by the ‘keeper. Will Harris then gathered the rebound, laying off to Dylan Crowe whose effort was saved.
Just before half time, Tom Pugh forced the Bolton ‘keeper into a save with a powerful volley and earning Town a corner. The subsequent corner came to nothing in the end.
It was goalless at the break, with eight changes for Town. Pugh, Jack Jenkins and Johnson kept their place.
In the 55th minute, Jenkins found space to play through to Angelo Cappello. He finds Jamie Cooke in space, who passes to Pugh. He makes no mistake in firing home to give Town the lead.
On the hour mark, Trialist F, Florent Hoti and Adam Adetoro replaced Jenkins, Pugh, and Trialist C.
With 15 minutes left to play, Frankie Valentine, a goalkeeper from the Youth Team, replaced Johnson.
In the 80th minute, Cooke got himself on the scoresheet. He worked hard to get the ball back, before giving Town a two goal lead.
In the dying moments, a wonder strike from the Bolton man at the halfway line gave the hosts a lifeline. There was nothing Valentine could do about that.
It was short-lived, as Owen Bray fired in from close range to restore the two goal cushion.
The match ended with a 3-1 win for Town. The Shaymen are next in action on Tuesday against Clitheroe.
