FC Halifax Town down were mightily unlucky not to get at least a point today as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to AFC Barrow.
We spoke to Josh Wilde post-match and he was massively frustrated with the game today. He demonstrated his anger and disappointment in the interview.
“You can’t put it into words really, it’s devastating,” admitted Wilde. “We were the better team throughout. We had the best chances.
“They’ve had one shot all game that (Tom) Nicholson only had to parry down and the goal where we switched off for a second.”
Halifax did create the better chances throughout the game as Wilde stated. In the first half, especially. Firstly, Wilde himself hit the post as a low driven shot beat the keeper but cannoned of the post and smashed into George Waring. The striker tried to rebound the ball goal wards, but Stuart Moore was able to push it over the bar.
The second time Halifax hit the woodwork was through Ben Tomlinson. The striker who returned from injury today slipped as he hit a first time shot in the area and the ball smashed the underside of the bar.
After having the better chances Wilde mentioned how difficult it was then to concede in the second half.
“It’s devastating, it’s a big knock to our confidence,” continued Wilde. “We’ve got to go again, keep going and try and push and get a goal, we are trying our best and that’s all we can do.”
Wilde did credit the team’s effort though. “We worked hard, worked our socks off and just need that bit of luck at the minute.”
Halifax are currently in a tricky patch now; the team are struggling for results. The squad is also down to its bare bones with many players out injured or suspended. Wilde said.
“People are playing out of position, Tommo (Ben Tomlinson) should be a striker, (Adam) Morgan’s come on and he has had to play left wing.”
“We’ve got people playing out of position all over the place and we are down to the bare bones now and I think if we get any more injuries or suspensions, we’re going to be struggling to make a team and make a bench”. The squad has been struggling but the team also need that bit of luck.
Wilde says the team need that luck to stop the winless run they’re on now. “All it’s going to take is that bit of luck and we’ll get our win and the confidence is going to be back.”
The full back is insistent that the team will get back to winning ways he says. Things just need to sway into the team’s favour. “The confidence is struggling, we’re all working as hard as we can and it’s so deflating.”
“A win would be massive for our confidence, that’s what we are lacking, and we need points desperately”.
FC Halifax Town will face Selby Town on Tuesday next and they’re back to league action next weekend away at Aldershot.
