FC Halifax Town drew 0-0 away at Barnet in the Vanarama National League this afternoon.
The closest either side came was Jamie Stott’s first half penalty, but it needed an excellent save from Bees goalkeeper Laurie Walker to keep the scores level.
Town boss Chris Millington had made two changes with Adam Senior and Aaron Cosgrave out for Max Wright and Jamie Cooke.
The Shaymen started the game brightly, Ryan Galvin into the box, looked to pick out a teammate and but won a corner in the 11th minute. Golden’s ball into the box was claimed easily by Laurie Walker.
A ball played into the box by Zak Brunt was narrowly wide of the target from Kanu on 22 minutes.
Max Wright on his first start for the Shaymen won a corner, Jack Evans towards the far post but it was headed out for a throw.
Town had an opportunity when Millenic Alli was fouled by Harry Prichard 30 yards from goal, Pritchard booked. Alli’s ball into the box found Jack Hunter in the box but he was not able to get enough on the header and it was an easy save for Walker.
At the other end, it needed a good save by Johnson on 37 minutes, a freekick was cleared and Harry Pritchard’s shot from the edge of the box was saved by Johnson.
Town had the perfect chance to go ahead as a freekick from Tylor Golden into the box and referee John Mulligan pointed to the spot as Jo Cummings was fouled in the box by Pritchard. Jamie Stott took the penalty, but Walker palmed the ball out for a corner. Ball back in and Stott headed wide.
Barnet nearly took the lead straight away, defender Danny Collinge headed at goal, and it needed to be saved by Johnson for a corner.
The Shaymen had two efforts from Alli at the end of the first half, his first went close with a shot which needed to be saved by Walker and then fired narrowly wide of the target.
Into the second half, a Freekick into the box, Pritchard across the goal into a dangerous area but Town able to clear for a corner before good play on 52 minutes, Barnet top goalscorer Nicke Kabamba and Zak Brunt combined with the shot straight at Sam Johnson and he was able to save again.
Ball played into Jamie Cooke edge of the box, but his effort was saved by Walker as Town denied again before a driving run by Jack Evans, he had to be brought down by Dale Gorman who went into the book just outside the penalty area. Alli’s effort hit the wall.
The home side kept going as well, they worked a good ball into the box, Collinge shot over the bar after being flicked on at the near post.
Both sides were having chances, Jamie Cooke’s cross was deflected into the side netting for a corner. Evans too close to Walker and claimed by him.
Johnson collected a freekick released Cappello, he looked for Cooke, but he was denied an opportunity as the offside flag up against him.
Barnet tried to hit Town on the break, Brunt forward, Hall-Johnson into the box and Armstrong fired wide and the efforts kept on coming as substitute Hall-Johnson’s cross was met by Callum Stead, but his effort was saved by Johnson.
Good play by Golden, wide for Cappello and the cross was headed out for a corner by Gorman.
Stead on the counterattack, he went the length of the pitch, and his effort was deflected narrowly wide of the target for the corner. Coker into the near post, Cappello cleared.
Andrew Oluwabori released Jamie Cooke and his effort was past Laurie Walker but into the side netting.
Neither side could find a way past impressive goalkeeping performances at both ends of the ground and the points were shared at the Hive.
Town are back in action on Tuesday night at home to Dagenham & Redbridge, 7.45pm kick-off.
