FC Halifax Town will start the new Vanarama National League season on Saturday with a trip to Barnet, 3pm kick-off.

It will be Chris Millington’s first league match in charge as manager having taken over from Pete Wild in May who he was assistant manager for three years.

Millington has made a number of new signings ahead of the season with the latest one being Tom Clarke returning to the Club as captain. The Halifax born defender was on loan back in the 2007-08 season from Huddersfield Town and has been the skipper at Preston North End and Fleetwood Town in recent years.

He has also brought in Tylor Golden, Jamie Stott, Mani Dierseruvwe, Sam Smart, Jack Hunter, Jordan Keane, Rob Harker, Angelo Cappello, Millenic Alli, Festus Arthur and Sam Minihan giving real strength to the squad.

Town got to the play-offs last season losing to Chesterfield in the play-off eliminator and will be looking to do better this season.

In the pre-season friendlies, Town have played all the games away from home to allow time for the Shay pitch to be worked on and it’s been mixed results with defeats at AFC Fylde, a defeat in a 45 min game against Salford and a defeat at Colne but a comfortable win over Curzon Ashton last weekend.

Barnet have beaten Bedford Town 4-0, Hemel Hempstead Town 2-0, Wingate & Finchley 5-1, Peterborough United 2-0 and lost games to Dartford, MK Dons and a Portsmouth XI.

Last season they finished 18th in the table with just six wins on home soil, they know they will need to win more games at the Hive to push further up the table.
