FC Halifax Town were held to a draw against Ashton United.

Town started the first of two fixtures in Ashton-Under-Lyne this afternoon at Ashton United.

The Shaymen took an early lead when Trialist fired in a long-range effort to beat the United ‘keeper.

Town made it two just after the half hour mark. Aaron Cosgrave had his shot cleared off the line but the ball fell to Trialist who was able to get the ball into the back of the net.

Just ahead of the break Angelo Cappello had his shot saved by the United ‘Keeper.

It was Ashton United that came out stronger in the second half, despite Andrew Oluwabori hitting the bar early on.

Jason Gilchrist was the man to get the first goal for United after beating Tom Scott from inside the box.

It was just eight minutes later when United levelled the score, a corner was met by the right foot of a United man who was able to fire the ball home.

Chris Millington made his first change in the 63rd minute when Max Wright made way for Frankie Sinfield.

In the dying moment of the game, Cosgrave’s low shot went just wide of the target.

Town are next in action at 3pm when they will face National League North side Curzon Ashton.
