FC Halifax Town are delighted to confirm the signing of centre back Ash Palmer on loan from fellow National League side York City.

Starting in the Barnsley academy, Palmer made the switch to Scunthorpe United in 2009. The centre back signed his first professional contract with the Iron the following year. Whilst on the books at Scunthorpe, Palmer spent time on loan at Southport and Harrogate Town. In September 2012, Palmer joined Hinckley United in the Conference North. The centre back made his debut against The Shaymen, with Town winning 2-0 on the day.

After just one month, Palmer was again on the move, this time to Droylsden in the Conference North. For the start of the 2013/14 season, the centre back joined Buxton. He stayed with the club for two years, before joining North Ferriby United, under former Town manager Billy Heath. Together they won promotion to the National League for the first time in the club’s history. Having won promotion, Palmer made the move to Guiseley, then in the National League, where he’d stay for a further two seasons.

Palmer’s next move was to drop back into the National League North to sign for Stockport County. There he’d spend four seasons, win two promotions, returning Stockport to the football league, and make over 150 appearances. After his successful spell in Stockport, the centre back returned to the National League to sign for Chesterfield. In his second season at the club, Palmer was once again promoted to League Two as champions, having lost out in the playoffs the previous year.

At the start of this season, Palmer joined York and has so far made six league appearances this season. The two-time National League champion now joins The Shaymen.
