FC Halifax Town beat Altrincham 3-2 at the Shay Stadium yesterday afternoon, which capped off a nice end to 2020. Wing back Jeff King spoke to ShaymenTV after the match.
King began the interview by giving his thoughts on the game, saying; “I thought we were dominant in spells. In the second half when we scored early, I thought we sat back a little bit too much and too early. But when we did attack in numbers, we looked dangerous. Overall, with the lads having played on Saturday, this is a big win.”
Jeff added on how Martin Woods’ early second half goal impacted the last forty-five minutes; “It was massive, but as I say, and it might sound silly – it might’ve come a bit too early. Because it gives Altrincham a long time to still get back into the game.
“From when we scored the third, we just sat in and if the goal came a bit later, we may have pushed on more. But there were lads out there who played on Saturday – they only had a 24-hour turnaround -this win is massive for us.”
The wing back returned to action after missing the last two games due to suspension, he spoke upon his return and how he was feeling; “It felt brilliant to be back! I felt fresh until about 80 minutes, but I always enjoy getting through that and helping the team and trying to be involved in goals.”
As this was the last game of 2020 for the Shaymen, it was interesting to hear King summarise his footballing 2020 – having spent all his last 12 months of this year as a Halifax player.
“I think 2020 has seen a bit more of the real version of myself, because at the beginning of my time at Halifax I feel like I was just getting into doing things. I could have been a little bit better, but I was just lacking confidence.
“Now I’m playing more games and I’ve been impacted a lot by the coaching team and those around me. 2020 has seen more of the real Jeff King, and hopefully in 2021 you might see some more.”
