Altrincham: We Were Good To Watch

Following FC Halifax Town’s dominant 2-0 win over Altrincham, Manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“We certainly controlled large parts of the game,” Wild said. “We dominated the football and we moved around well. We stopped them doing what they are tactically good at. I thought we got it spot on tactically today. I’m really pleased with how we have controlled most of the game. We are capable of playing two different systems. I then have to pick which one is right for the opponents, I know Altrincham’s fullbacks like to bomb on. So, with three up front we were able to pin their fullbacks back with Harvey, Slew, and Jamie when he came on doing that really well.”

Town started the game brightly and were unfortunate not to go in front during the opening stages of the game. This is something Wild has focused on with the squad to try and get an early advantage.

“We were good to watch with a good tempo,” Wild told Shaymen TV. “We moved the ball really well and there was plenty to be pleased about. There are certainly some bits that still need to be better. However, we are going the right way.”

Jordan Slew netted both his first of the season, and Town’s first goal of the game in the 58th minute before Billy Waters doubled the lead with his third goal in as many games.

“Slew didn’t play from the end of February as he broke his ankle,” Wild said. “He is still trying to find his way back into football and get himself back where he needs to be. So, I’m really pleased because that will give him all the confidence. Then Bill has been a threat and a nuisance all game. Centre-forwards who score goals are at a premium, so I’ll be happy if he keeps fulfilling that role.”

Town make the trip to Yeovil on Saturday to play in front of the BT Sport cameras. Wild is hoping for similar performances on TV to those of last season.

“Another one around the corner,” Wild joked. “We’re on the telly and we are going to show everyone what a good team we are on the telly, and we are desperate to do that. We won every game on BT Sport so fingers crossed it can be the same this year.”
